Rule 8 as it stood in May 2022

Rule 8 is one of the most important rules on Heyuri. It was first created by kuz in May 2020, but has been modified several times since. The rule restricts certain types of posts and images from being made to the site, such as Wojak and Pepe images, as well as nu-4chan slang. This is the rule that keeps Heyuri afloat, attracted large swathes of its userbase, and is ultimately what allows the site to maintain its unique culture.

Purpose

Rule 8 exists to help cultivate Heyuri's unique site culture, keep out the AIDS & lamers that ruin the internet, maintain a lighthearted atmosphere, and inspire a culture of camaraderie over the endless shit-flinging and crappy posts commonly seen on many other imageboard-related sites. On Heyuri, the expectation is that users enjoy the site's community and content; if you never have and never will, why are you here?

What is/isn't Rule 8?

Material that falls under Rule 8

Every post and situation is treated individually, but in general, the following things fall under Rule 8:

• "Modern" 4chan/imageboard-derived culture (mainly trolling-related, especially from 2010s+)
  • Written examples include: "greentext" stories, "based", "cringe", "sneed", "dilate", "janny", "smh tbh fam", "t. X", ">implying Y", "Z lost", "coal/gem", "-oomer", "chad/stacy", "REEEEE", etc.
  • Image/video examples include: Pepe/Wojak edits, trollface/rage comics, gigachad, doge, pretty much anything designed to piss users off instead of make them LOL, etc.
• Social media-derived "meme" culture and nu-web AIDS
  • Examples include: Twitch/streamer culture, regurgitated-to-death template "memes", "baked/dank memes", "rizz", "sigma", "skibidi", "67", "ok boomer", "deez nuts", "always has been", etc.
• Overly angry and aggressive posts that aren't in good fun
• "Ironic shitposting"
  • I.e. making unwanted/LOLs-killing posts on purpose, doing exaggerated and disparaging impressions of Heyuri users/culture, etc.

Material that does not fall under Rule 8

• New things simply because they're new
• AI-generated material simply because it's AI-generated
  • Posting limitations for AI-generated material apply on certain boards, but those limits are unrelated to Rule 8
• Anything rule-abiding simply because it's become popular elsewhere
• Well-established words and phrases used properly when there happens to be a Rule 8-breaking usage/variant
• Classic internet/4chan culture (especially pre-2008)
• Lesser-known/less-abused "modern" 4chan/imageboard culture (mainly when not trolling-related)
• Virtually anything deriving from Japan (especially anime/otaku-related)
  • Non-Japanese memes/culture deriving from Japanese material can still fall under Rule 8 if it is made of AIDS
