An oldbie is the opposite of a newbie (also known as a noob or n00b). It generally refers to people who remember the Internet of yore—especially before you started using it—but it is also relative to the community or topic being discussed. E.g., an oldbie of a community started in 2007 may be a newbie of a community that started in 1997.
On Heyuri, oldbie can refer to several things:
- Users who were present during or before Heyuri's Sakomoto era (November 11, 2019 to May 24, 2020)
- Users who were present during or before the Oldfag Declaration Day (June 6, 2020)
- Users who were present during or before the golden age of Heyuri (roughly May 2020 to August 2020)
The newbie–oldbie dichotomy is generally used on Heyuri in a joking or non-serious manner, unlike other imageboards where it is often treated as Serious Business.
Some people refer to oldbies as oldfags. This variation—along with newfag—primarily took off during 4chan's Newfag Summer of 2007. The usage of newfag and oldfag was originally itself a clear sign that the user in question was a newbie, but this delicious irony is lost on most post-2007 imageboard users.
