Contributing many LOLs back in [[TEH OLDE]], 4chan has more recently come under fire for slowly moving further and further away from it's weeb culture roots, leading progressively more people to leave the site and try to recreate the enviroment of the early 2000s imageboard culture.
Due to a constant influx/outflux of users and occasional changes in moderation practices, 4chan's culture completely changes roughly every 3 years. This is how many [[Altchan]]s are born, (and subsequentially die after a while), creating their own subculture for their communities. Some examples of which can be found at Heyuri's own [https://heyuri.net/index.php?p=links| Links] page.

4chan is an anonymous imageboard that has been running since October 2003. It was the first major English-speaking imageboard, and has had a significant impact on both internet culture and IRL. Since its inception, it has been known for providing many LOLs, controversies, and shitty threads.

Due to a constant influx/outflux of users and occasional changes in moderation practices, 4chan's culture completely changes roughly every 3 years. Frequent user dissatisfaction has lead to many spinoffs and alternatives being created, which usually begin life with a small exodus of 4chan users, but they usually die after a short while. Heyuri is not one of these, since it was created completely independently of 4chan.
