This article is currently about the wrong thing...

Web chats are web-based chat rooms; they are distinct from IRC, instant messaging, etc. since they are used over HTTP in a standard web browser - as opposed to some other protocol or client. Their heyday was the mid-to-late 1990s, prior to the dot-com bubble. WebChat Broadcasting System is an example from the West (here's a screenshot from this 1994-95 article), and the ゆいちゃっと script (and other similar scripts like COMCHAT which Heyuri uses) are examples from Japan. --Anonwaha (talk) 03:12, 6 February 2025 (UTC)
