The '''War of The Second Coalition''' was a war between [[OTAKU]], accompanied by [[AGGRO]] and OTAKU affiliated islands, against [[HAPI]]. The war started as a surprise attack on [[Suigintou Island]] by [[OTAKU]] and [[AGGRO]], and an attack on [[Chuu Island]] by the [[OTAKU#Gaijin_Otaku_Pact|Gaijin Otaku Pact islands]].

'''Hakoniwa Islands''' (箱庭諸島; Hakoniwa Shotou; lit. "Miniature Garden Islands") is an open source island-development simulation [[CGI games|CGI game]] where players develop their own islands while interacting with other players' islands through diplomacy and war. The game and its many derivatives were incredibly popular on the Japanese web of the late-1990s and early-2000s, with commercial versions and real-life events/tournaments taking place. Many Japanese instances remain active as of October 2023.

== Gameplay ==

The only "goal" in the base Hakoniwa Islands game is to develop an island, with the optional goal of trying to reach the top of the island population rankings.

The game uses turns, which by default are set to occur every 6 hours. Before each turn, players decide on their development plans to be performed on upcoming turns. Typically, only a single plan per island is performed each turn, however some plans will not trigger the turn end and can therefore be combined with other plans.

There are many disasters that can occur; some of these happen at random, while others only occur if the player has neglected to take preventative measures. In addition to disasters, sometimes a monster will show up and cause destruction, and other times an island may be attacked by other islands.

Certain events may result in awards being given to islands that meet certain requirements. These include:
*Being 1st in the rankings on a hundredth turn.
*Having a certain population size.
*Gaining a certain amount of population in a single turn.
*Losing a certain amount of population in a single turn.

== History ==

Regarded as one of the earliest CGI games, the first version of Hakoniwa Islands (箱庭諸島) was released in 1997 by developer Hiroki Tokuoka (徳岡宏樹). By 1999, an expanded version by Hiroki Tokuoka called Hakoniwa Islands 2 (箱庭諸島2) had been created, which became the basis of most future variations and derivatives of the game.

Most derivative versions greatly expand the scope of the game by introducing additional development plans, resources, monsters, and features (such as factions, trading, shared locations, etc.).

It was reported in the early-2000s that some hosting services had banned the game from being installed on their servers due to the heavy load it introduced.

In 2001, Taito teamed up with So-net (Sony Network Communications Inc.) to create a now-defunct commercial version of the game titled "Minna no Island" (みんなのあいらんど; lit. "Everyone's Island"), which was Taito's first foray into online gaming. The beta began on October 17th, 2001, and it cost 315 yen per month to play.

In 2014, mobile game developer KAZUTERU YOKOI published a now-defunct iOS version of the game.

== Heyuri's Hakoniwa Islands 2 instance ==
[[Heyuri]] hosts its own [https://cgi.heyuri.net/hakoniwa2/ English-translated instance of Hakoniwa Islands 2] (箱庭諸島2) on the [[Heyuri★CGI]] section of the site, which has so far proven popular with the site's users. As of October 24, 2023, there are 28 islands currently in existence with a total of 66 islands having been created.

Development of the English translation began on February 19, 2023, and was very slowly carried out in near-total secrecy by [[anonwaha]] with occasional assistance from [[kaguya]]. Together they "playtested" the game for several months (AKA got carried away playing it and didn't work on it at all), and it was officially launched on September 19, 2023.

Like many Japanese instances of the game, Heyuri has instituted a rule (by popular demand) that '''players may only have control over a single island at any given time'''. This doesn't apply to the '''[[Heyuri Intelligence Agency]]''' ('''HIA'''; rumored to be a front for [[Mods|Heyuri's moderation team]]), who will occasionally "seize" islands controlled by players found to be breaking the "one island per player" rule.

On turn 20 something, OTAKU was made when PC98 wanted to form a alliance with DESU and Gensokyo because they all are related to Otakuism. DESU agreed and OTAKU was formed with PC98 but Gensokyo didn't join.
*Suiseiseki island joined OTAKU probably around turn 40. Souseiseki island also joined OTAKU later but was actually owned by someone who had another island(likely Suiseiseki) so it vanished.
*Suiseiseki Island left OTAKU on turn 174; however relations remained strong between them and OTAKU.
*As a result of HAPI and OTAKU military cooperation in the Pen war, the People's Republic of Shotacon joined OTAKU.
*On turn 223, [[Gensokyo Island|Gensokyo]] joined OTAKU. On turn 326, the new Hachikuji Island joined OTAKU.
*The LS of Shotacon and DESU left OTAKU on turn 370~.

Sometime on about turn 100, Suiseiseki started firing missiles to ANNARU SEKKUSU island and afterwards PC98 did the same which completely destroyed all of ANNARU SEKKUSU. this started a riot over bombing a innocent island and almost started a huge war with OTAKU and HAPI, also DESU left OTAKU over this but rejoined 40 turns later. Suiseiseki started to send missiles to Milf island so Milf island joined HAPI and HAPI declared a war that no one was bombed in because Suiseiseki surrendered immediately, but this incident would lead to the [[Upchuck Island#Great Upchuckian War|Great Upchuckian War]]. Suiseiseki paid ANNARU SEKKUSU 1100M$ and PC98 paid them 100M$ and 20k t of food to make up for what ANNARU SEKKUSU lost. despite this, ANNARU SEKKUSU would do a ambush on PC98 on about turn 120 and PC98 declared a war so it started the OTAKU-ANNARU WAR!. PC98 was goatsed and ANNARU SEKKUSU got even more destroyed because PC98 was helped by Suiseiseki. OTAKU and ANNARU SEKKUSU would agree to peace on turn 128 and ANNARU SEKKUSU had to pay 600M$ to Suiseiseki and PC98 each because of their sneaky attack. pen island also fired one missile and it hit a missile base at PC98 but PC98 didn't do anything because peace came the next turn.

=== Pen War ===
On turn 192, Pen island sent an ultimatum to DESU island, demanding they leave either HAPI or OTAKU. When DESU ignored the demand, Pen island sent a mechanora on turn 195. OTAKU and HAPI would cooperate to defeat Pen island, sinking Pen on turn 210 but with great damage to HAPI and OTAKU.

=== Weezite War ===
On turn 464, PC98 declared war on Weezite Island in collaboration with Hachikuji and Clover Island, with the goal of making Weezite Island a colony to Hachikuji and Clover. This cooperation with Clover Island led to them becoming a member of the Gaijin Otaku Pact. The war ended with no change, other than Weezite Island being bombed, and ended on turn 469 because OTAKU had bigger things on it's plate.

=== HAPI-Coalition War ===
On turn 472, the [[War of the First Coalition]] started when [[PC98 Island]] launched a monolith into Suigintou Island, and [[Hachikuji Island]] and [[Upchuck Island|G Island]] launched a missile attack on Chuu Island. The war started off in the Coalition's(AGGRO and OTAKU) favor, but the tide of war soon changed in HAPI's favor after many mistakes, and some overuse of HIA powers. Gensokyo Island, although a member of OTAKU, would fight alongside HAPI. A false surrender was sent to HAPI from OTAKU, but this was apart of the keikoku for Operation Last Stand, which would be a last attempt to win the war. After Pen Island refused to take part in the organized plan, and some HAPI members did not respect the peace, the Coalition launched a final attack for the cause of doing as much damage to HAPI as possible, now that total victory was impossible. There was significant damage to HAPI, but the war resulted in a temporary HAPI victory. After losing all their missile bases, [[Hachikuji Island]] demanded to be granted an honorable death, of which they received. After [[PC98 Island]] lost all their missile bases, they began to ground level their cities to commit island seppuku, before abandoning the island due to lack of funds to continue ground leveling, and HAPI would not fire upon them.

=== Soylent War ===
On turn 574, Shinobu Island, [[Iopsd Island]], [[Upchuck Island|Chrono Island]], and the [[OS-tan Shogunate Island|OS-tan Shogunate]] declared war on, and completely raeped soylent Island in response to soylent's attacks on the young OS-tan Shogunate and Shinobu islands on turn 507 and 508. When soylent Island returned from afk, he noticed his island had been punished for it's crimes and ran to anonwaha to tug on his dress and cry. anonwaha would tell him that everthing would be okay if he joined HAPI, and kissed him on his forehead. soylent Island would shamefully surrender and pay the OS-tan Shogunate and Shinobu Island reparations, and joined HAPI in hopes that it will protect them. The war would end on turn 578, with soylent never firing a shot off.

On turn 192, Pen island sent an ultimatum to DESU island, demanding they leave either HAPI or OTAKU. When DESU ignored the demand, Pen island sent a mechanora on turn 195. OTAKU and HAPI would cooperate to defeat Pen island, sinking Pen on turn 210 but with great damage to HAPI and OTAKU.

On turn 464, PC98 declared war on Weezite Island in collaboration with Hachikuji and Clover Island, with the goal of making Weezite Island a colony to Hachikuji and Clover. This cooperation with Clover Island led to them becoming a member of the Gaijin Otaku Pact. The war ended with no change, other than Weezite Island being bombed, and ended on turn 469 because OTAKU had bigger things on it's plate.

=== HAPI-Coalition War ===
On turn 472, the [[War of the First Coalition]] started when [[PC98 Island]] launched a monolith into Suigintou Island, and [[Hachikuji Island]] and [[Upchuck Island|G Island]] launched a missile attack on Chuu Island. The war started off in the Coalition's(AGGRO and OTAKU) favor, but the tide of war soon changed in HAPI's favor after many mistakes, and some overuse of HIA powers. Gensokyo Island, although a member of OTAKU, would fight alongside HAPI. A false surrender was sent to HAPI from OTAKU, but this was apart of the keikoku for Operation Last Stand, which would be a last attempt to win the war. After Pen Island refused to take part in the organized plan, and some HAPI members did not respect the peace, the Coalition launched a final attack for the cause of doing as much damage to HAPI as possible, now that total victory was impossible. There was significant damage to HAPI, but the war resulted in a temporary HAPI victory. After losing all their missile bases, [[Hachikuji Island]] demanded to be granted an honorable death, of which they received. After [[PC98 Island]] lost all their missile bases, they began to ground level their cities to commit island seppuku, before abandoning the island due to lack of funds to continue ground leveling, and HAPI would not fire upon them.

=== Soylent War ===
On turn 574, Shinobu Island, [[Iopsd Island]], [[Upchuck Island|Chrono Island]], and the [[OS-tan Shogunate Island|OS-tan Shogunate]] declared war on, and completely raeped soylent Island in response to soylent's attacks on the young OS-tan Shogunate and Shinobu islands on turn 507 and 508. When soylent Island returned from afk, he noticed his island had been punished for it's crimes and ran to anonwaha to tug on his dress and cry. anonwaha would tell him that everthing would be okay if he joined HAPI, and kissed him on his forehead. soylent Island would shamefully surrender and pay the OS-tan Shogunate and Shinobu Island reparations, and joined HAPI in hopes that it will protect them. The war would end on turn 578, with soylent never firing a shot off.

The''' Turmoil of Turn 200''' was a period lasting from roughly turn 193 - turn 213. Not only was this period marked by two of the deadliest wars in the archipelago's history, it also involved a massive influx of monsters and natural disasters. Conservative estimates set the total death toll of this 20-turn period to around 1,095,000, with over 12 islands affected in some way.

=Pen War=

The pen Is War was the costliest war in Heyurian history. It began with pen Island issuing an ultimatum to [[DESU Island]] on around turn 190. pen man demanded DESU step down to let someone else claim the 200-Turn Cup, and to leave either HAPI or OTAKU. Pen man could afford to make these demands, as a number of turns earlier he had struck oil in the waters near his island, granting him $1000M every turn. However, his demands were met with ridicule. One of them was nonetheless met when DESU was struck by a massive earthquake and tsunami, sending them down from the #1 spot, which was then claimed by Dnalsi Island. During this time, Mooshy of Naked Apron Island announced their support for pen Island. On turn 195, pen man began the pen Is War by creating a mechanized Inora monster and airdropping it on DESU Island. Although PC98 Island helped quickly dispatch the monster, most of DESU island other allies were in a bad state due to other disasters and a general downturn, leaving DESU Island mostly on its own. Due to this situation, DESU called for a ceasefire and agreed to negotiate with pen Island, resulting in the infamous '''Treaty of Turn 197'''. The Great Upchuckian King, who, after the very real Newchuckian Genocide, took refuge at pen Island, also helped pen man with strategy. HAPI's biggest foe may not have even been pen man himself, as during this time many islands were hit with disasters and monsters, including the first appearance of the Red Inora and Ghost Inora. Although pen man's oil rig was taken out quite early on, he still had saved a sizeable amount of funds to fuel his war effort. And so, even against seven other islands, pen man held his own until turn 210, when his last city was destroyed by an [[Iopsd Island|Iopsdian]] missile, and his island sank to the bottom of the ocean. As of writing, both islands are in a temporary ceasefire, and Dnalsi has been open to negotiations with Suiseiseki. A doll nation lead by the well-intentioned but slightly haughty tsundere herself, Suiseiseki. Given a cursory glance of the island’s name, one might be tempted to think that it is inhabited exclusively by Suiseiseki replicas, however this is not entirely the case. Dolls of all varieties are welcome on Suiseiseki Island, the only requirements being that they are at least somewhat cute and make an effort to behave themselves as a well-mannered lady should.

= Diplomacy =
While Suiseiseki Island is no longer a member, the dolls of Suiseiseki Island hold the [[OTAKU]] alliance in high regard, commending [[PC98 Island]] in particular for their defense of Suiseiseki Island after accusations were made by [[HAPI]] regarding the nature of Public Commune Island’s generous donations to the island, as well as their help in the war on ANARRU SEKKUSU Island, Suiseiseki Island’s sworn rival. Opinions of HAPI among Suiseiseki residents tend towards negative, due to their interference with the war on Milf Island, as well as their destruction of pen Island, whom Suiseiseki Island was on friendly terms with. While not a formal alliance, Suiseiseki Island harbors particularly negative sentiments towards the Heyuri Intelligence Agency, due to them seizing and shutting down Suiseiseki’s sister island, Souseiseki Island.

Unfortunately, a highly defective doll was put in charge of Suiseiseki Island’s defense systems, who on turn 198 proceeded to launch the entire Suiseiseki arsenal at [[Dnalsi Island]]. The doll in question received only a moderate punishment, due to her misfire inadvertently landing Suiseiseki Island the 200-turn cup, however she was still taken out of her position as missile operator and replaced by a far more competent operative. It has been theorized by some that these attacks were in fact carefully planned by Suiseiseki high command with the objective of taking the 200-turn cup, however Suiseiseki Island disavows these claims, maintaining their position that the attacks were purely accidental.
The dolls of Suiseiseki Island are widely known for their penchant for sweet-tasting foods, with a particular predilection for strawberries. Due to damaged relations between Suiseiseki Island and Dnalsi Island, the archipelago’s primary grower of strawberries, a large-scale strawberry shortage has ensued on Suiseiseki Island, resulting in rampant unrest and malcontentment among its citizenry. Efforts are currently underway to mend relations between the two islands.

Dnalsi is an Island in the Heyuri Archipelago. Dnalsi is notable as one of the few islands not affiliated with any sort of alliance such as [[HAPI]], [[OTAKU]], [[AGGRO]], or others and is a testament to the power of staying out of everyone's way while they blow each other to bits (until an unfortunate military engagement around turn 200). Having held the number 1 rank in island population on numerous occasions, Dnalsi is a thriving island known primarily for its export of strawberry jam. While the island has faced heartbreak in the form of disasters such as ravaging by inoras, giant meteorites, and jealous rivals, Dnalsi always seems to bounce back to reclaim its former glory.

During the [[Turmoil of Turn 200]], Dnalsi Island suffered greatly at the hands of a surprise barrage by [[Suiseiseki Island]], who snatched the 200-turn cup after knocking Dnalsi from the #1 spot. Dnalsi Island was dragged into a costly war that saw its population reduced to almost a quarter. The attack was executed so that each missile would destroy Dnalsi's cities, and funnel the population as refugees to Suiseiseki, closing what had been an almost 100,000 gap in population between the #1 and #2 ranked islands. The attacker Suiseiseki initially attributed these attacks to a targeting error by some miscalibrated dolls (akin to the accidental missile attack on Dnalsi by ANARRU SEKKUSU Island in the turns preceding) but as their continued attacks would prove, this was an absolutely intentional act of aggression. When the 200-turn cup was calculated on turn 200, Suiseiseki had taken the #1 position with a lead of fewer than 10,000 citizens, meaning if even one more of the missiles failed to strike the target, Suiseiseki may not have gained the lead in time and would have failed to steal the cup. On turn 20 something, OTAKU was made when PC98 wanted to form a alliance with DESU and Gensokyo because they all are related to Otakuism. DESU agreed and OTAKU was formed with PC98 but Gensokyo didn't join. Suiseiseki island joined OTAKU probably around turn 40. Souseiseki island was also in OTAKU but was actually somebody's who had another island so it vanished. Suiseiseki Island left OTAKU on turn 174; however relations remain strong between them and OTAKU. As a result of HAPI and OTAKU military cooperation in the Pen war, the People's Republic of Shotacon joined OTAKU. On turn 223, [[Gensokyo Island|Gensokyo]] joined OTAKU

== OTAKU-ANNARU War ==
Sometime on about turn 100, Suiseiseki started firing missiles to ANNARU SEKKUSU island and afterwards PC98 did the same which completely destroyed all of ANNARU SEKKUSU. this started a riot over bombing a innocent island and almost started a huge war with OTAKU and HAPI, also DESU left OTAKU over this but rejoined 40 turns later. Suiseiseki started to send missiles to Milf island so Milf island joined HAPI and HAPI declared a war that no one was bombed in because Suiseiseki surrendered immediately, but this incident would lead to the [[Upchuck Island#Great Upchuckian War|Great Upchuckian War]]. Suiseiseki paid ANNARU SEKKUSU 1100M$ and PC98 paid them 100M$ and 20k t of food to make up for what ANNARU SEKKUSU lost. despite this, ANNARU SEKKUSU would do a ambush on PC98 on about turn 120 and PC98 declared a war so it started the OTAKU-ANNARU WAR!. PC98 was goatsed and ANNARU SEKKUSU got even more destroyed because PC98 was helped by Suiseiseki. OTAKU and ANNARU SEKKUSU would agree to peace on turn 128 and ANNARU SEKKUSU had to pay 600M$ to Suiseiseki and PC98 each because of their sneaky attack. pen island also fired one missile and it hit a missile base at PC98 but PC98 didn't do anything because peace came the next turn.

On turn 192, Pen island sent an ultimatum to DESU island, demanding they leave either HAPI or OTAKU. When DESU ignored the demand, Pen island sent a mechanora on turn 195. OTAKU and HAPI would cooperate to defeat Pen island, sinking Pen on turn 210 but with great damage to HAPI and OTAKU.

Pen man could afford to make these demands, as a number of turns earlier he had struck oil in the waters near his island, granting him $1000M every turn. However, his demands were met with ridicule. One of them was nonetheless met when DESU was struck by a massive earthquake and tsunami, sending them down from the #1 spot, which was then claimed by Dnalsi Island. During this time, Mooshy of Naked Apron Island announced their support for pen Island. On turn 195, pen man began the pen Is War by creating a mechanized Inora monster and airdropping it on DESU Island. Although PC98 Island helped quickly dispatch the monster, most of DESU island other allies were in a bad state due to other disasters and a general downturn, leaving DESU Island mostly on its own. Due to this situation, DESU called for a ceasefire and agreed to negotiate with pen Island, resulting in the infamous '''Treaty of Turn 197'''. The Great Upchuckian King, who, after the very real Newchuckian Genocide, took refuge at pen Island, also helped pen man with strategy. HAPI's biggest foe may not have even been pen man himself, as during this time many islands were hit with disasters and monsters, including the first appearance of the Red Inora and Ghost Inora. Although pen man's oil rig was taken out quite early on, he still had saved a sizeable amount of funds to fuel his war effort. Not only was this period marked by two of the deadliest wars in the archipelago's history, it also involved a massive influx of monsters and natural disasters. Conservative estimates set the total death toll of this 20-turn period to around 1,095,000, with over 12 islands affected in some way.

It began with pen Island (PENISland) issuing an ultimatum to DESU Island on around turn 190. pen man demanded DESU step down to let someone else claim the 200-Turn Cup, and to leave either HAPI or OTAKU. Pen man could afford to make these demands, as a number of turns earlier he had struck oil in the waters near his island, granting him $1000M every turn. However, his demands were met with ridicule. One of them was nonetheless met when DESU was struck by a massive earthquake and tsunami, sending them down from the #1 spot, which was then claimed by Dnalsi Island. During this time, Mooshy of Naked Apron Island announced their support for PENISland. On turn 195, pen man began the PENIS War by creating a mechanized Inora monster and airdropping it on DESU Island. All prior BAI-listed crimes will be written off for any BAI-listed islands that join the fight against PENISland

Although criticized by non-HAPI members as escalating a war that had already ended, DESU Island and all HAPI members nontheless agreed to the proposal and the war proper began. The treaty did not last a single turn. Both HAPI and OTAKU began attacking PENISland. Although pen man was supported by Naked Apron Island and G Island, they both had little firepower and were not able to contribute much. The Great Upchuckian King, who, after the very real Newchuckian Genocide, took refuge at PENISland, also helped pen man with strategy. HAPI's biggest foe may not have even been pen man himself, as during this time many islands were hit with disasters and monsters, including the first appearance of the Red Inora and Ghost Inora. Although pen man's oil rig was taken out quite early on, he still had saved a sizeable amount of funds to fuel his war effort. Although criticized by non-HAPI members as escalating a war that had already ended, DESU Island and all HAPI members nontheless agreed to the proposal and the war proper began. The treaty did not last a single turn. Both HAPI and OTAKU began attacking pen Island. Although pen man was supported by Naked Apron Island and G Island, they both had little firepower and were not able to contribute much. The Great Upchuckian King, who, after the very real Newchuckian Genocide, took refuge at PENISland, also helped pen man with strategy. HAPI's biggest foe may not have even been pen man himself, as during this time many islands were hit with disasters and monsters, including the first appearance of the Red Inora and Ghost Inora. Although pen man's oil rig was taken out quite early on, he still had saved a sizeable amount of funds to fuel his war effort. And so, even against seven other islands, pen man held his own until turn 210, when his last city was destroyed by an Iopsdian missile, and his island sank to the bottom of the ocean. Pen man's current whereabouts are unknown; some believe he went down with his island.
= Attack on Dnalsi [unfinished] =
On turn 198, the same turn that the PENIS War truly began, Suiseiseki Island launched a surprise attack on Dnalsi Island, who held the top spot in the archipelago. They attacked again on turn 199, which lowered Dnalsi's rankings and put Suiseiseki Island on the top spot. On turn 200, they recieved the 200-Turn Cup. Dnalsi being a peace loving island started crumbling from continued bombardment. However, on turn 204, Soylent Island sent a mecha Inora monster to Suiseiseki Island.

== History ==
On turn 20 something, OTAKU was made when PC98 wanted to form a alliance with DESU and Gensokyo because they all are related to otakuism. DESU agreed and OTAKU was formed with PC98 but Gensokyo didn't join <del>because they would prefer to join HAPI and do nothing</del>. Suiseiseki island joined OTAKU probably around turn 40. Souseiseki island was also in OTAKU but was actually somebody's who had another island so it vanished. sometime later on about turn 100, suiseiseki started firing missiles to ANNARU SEKKUSU island and afterwards PC98 did the same which completely destroyed all of ANNARU SEKKUSU. this started a riot over <baby voice>bombing a innocent iswand<baby voice> and almost started a huge war with OTAKU and HAPI, also DESU left OTAKU over this but rejoined 40 turns later. Suiseiseki started to send missiles to Milf island so Milf island joined HAPI and HAPI declared a war that no one was bombed in because Suiseiseki surrendered immediately, but this incident would lead to the [[Upchuck Island#Great Upchuckian War|Great Upchuckian War]]. Suiseiseki paid ANNARU SEKKUSU 1100M$ and PC98 paid them 100M$ and 20k t of food to make up for what ANNARU SEKKUSU lost. despite this, ANNARU SEKKUSU would do a ambush on PC98 on about turn 120 and PC98 declared a war so it started the OTAKU-ANNARU WAR!. PC98 was goatsed and ANNARU SEKKUSU got even more destroyed because PC98 was helped by Suiseiseki. OTAKU and ANNARU SEKKUSU would agree to peace on turn 128 and ANNARU SEKKUSU had to pay 600M$ to Suiseiseki and PC98 each because of their sneaky attack. pen island also fired one missile and it hit a missile base at PC98 but PC98 didnt do anything because peace came the next turn. one turn Secret island would be pelted by PC98 for their refugees but Secret island fired back on turn 171. Suiseiseki Island left OTAKU on turn 174; however they remain on good terms with OTAKU to this very day.
